People are being reminded to keep their pets on a leash near cliffs, after a dog was recovered close to Runkerry.
Coleraine Coastguard says a German Shepherd had fallen about 20 metres and died as a result.
Volunteers managed to rescue the animal using rope rescue equipment but "nothing could be done" to save it.
The dog was then returned to it's owners.
The emergency services says this underlines the importance of leashes and how it only takes minute to "lose a cherished pet".
