Fermanagh police work closely with an Gardaí Síochána on road safety

This week the police in Fermanagh have been working with An Gardaí Síochána as part of an operation to improve road safety on the A3 and the N54. 

The two roads run from either side of the border from Fermanagh to Cavan; aswell as Antrim, Armagh and Monaghan. 

Only last week a new law was passed that recognises driving bans on both sides of the border across the island of Ireland. 

Now both services are clamping down on driving issues.

A spokesperson for the Fermanagh PSNI said: 

"We take motoring and safety issues seriously and have been responding to concerns from the community. 

"This targeted patrolling and road safety operation focused on dangerous driving.

"While we have no objection to ‘harmless fun’, we do have a responsibility for community safety and the prevention of crime, however, the real danger here is that someone could get seriously hurt or lose their lives.

"We would appeal for everyone to take more care when out on the roads. We will continue to work with the community and our partner agencies in the interests of the local community."
