The vacant, former Kincora Boys home in East Belfast has been left damaged following a suspected arson attack.
A fire was discovered on the ground floor of the building on the Newtownards Road close to the junction of North Road shortly after midnight.
Police say a car was heard speeding away from the scene at around that time.
There have been calls for the former home to be demolished after allegations of decades of historic child sex abuse there.

It is understood most damage to the already run-down building was confined to one room.
The future of the property, which was renamed many years ago, has been the source of controversy.
