A school principal has written to parents expressing his concerns over what he calls ‘highly inappropriate’ content written on social media.
Stephen Magennis, from St Joseph's Primary in Galbally, says material posted on Snapchat and other sites can be hurtful.
He’s asked parents to be vigilant.
His warning comes following the tragic death of Ronan Hughes. He took his own life after being tricked into posting images online.
He worked with pupils at St Joseph's on reading initiatives.
Much of the language and content is highly inappropriate and hurtful," he wrote in his letter.
He urged parents to be more "vigilant" and ensure their children were not engaged in any such behaviour.
"I would ask that you talk over with your child the serious implications of writing nasty and hurtful things about other children," he warned.
