Hard hitting road safety message delivered at event in Enniskillen

Police in Fermanagh are urging motorists to switch onto road safety. 

A hard hitting message was delivered at a road safety event they delivered in Quay Lane, Enniskillen on Friday 23rd June. 

Inspector Rory Hoy explains: 

"The main collision causation factors which led to death and serious injuries on our roads - some people drive too fast, some drive after taking a drink; others refuse or forget to wear seatbelts; and all too often some are too busy texting on their mobile phones to focus on the road. 

"Keeping people safe on the roads is routine business for police however it is worth educating our motorists for the future. 

"Young people sometimes think of themselves as invincible but they must not become complacent to the dangers on our roads." 

Officers in Fermanagh were there, supported by Fermanagh and Omagh PCSP; Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, Community Safety Wardens and Institute of Advanced Motorists. 

They demonstrated the dangers on roads via a reconstruction and the use of the PCSP car crash simulator. 

Inspector Rory Hoy went on to say: 

"We hope visitors will have been impacted by the event and will take road safety as seriously as we do as a consequence of what they saw at this event."

Officers also took the opportunity to engage with drivers who use the Quay Lane car park in the evenings. 

They advised them of the impact on vehicular anti-social behaviour which comes from the car park at night. 

Inspector Hoy concluded in saying: 

"Noise levels coming from the car park in the evenings are an issue which impacts on local residents.

"Driving standards and litter are additional problems caused by those congregating in Quay Lane car park during the evenings.”
