Causeway Hospital must be able keep its stroke services, according to the MLA Maurice Bradley.
He made the comments after meeting specialist stroke staff at the Coleraine facility.
A consultation is underway which could eventually result in stroke services being cut in smaller hospitals.
They could then be concentrated at bigger sites in Londonderry and Belfast.
