A Newry man who claimed he a gay rape victim, but later admitted it was a bogus allegation, has escaped jail.
24 year old Gary Kearns from Barcroft Park walked free from Newry Crown Court yesterday.
The judge told Kearns but for his admission, and psychiatric reports, he'd have jailed him for eighteen months.
In the first case of its kind here Kearns was given one year's imprisonment, suspended for two years.
