'Newry should get used to traffic and parking problems' - financial advisor

Newry and its visitors should get used to traffic and parking problems in the run-up to Christmas.

That's from financial adviser John Hughes.
It follows an influx of southern shoppers taking advantage of the weak pound, and heading to the border city for bargains.
Mr Hughes says the infrastructure is not designed for it.

Speaking on the Q Cafe he said, "Well I just drove around the town here for 15 minutes trying to get parked... at the end of the day we don't have the infrastructure it's too late to do anything about it now.

"One of the things they might do is lift the parking charges but that's never going to happen so at the bottom line is it's just going be very busy and very difficult to get in and out and there's just nothing we can do about that at the moment.

He added, "In terms of going forward, you wonder whether they'll invest in an infrastructure project if they don't know where it's going to be required, because if the value of the pound reverses itself and that situation changes then it probably wasn't worth putting hundreds and thousands or millions into improving the infrastructure."
