Police probe poppy wreath damage at memorial

Wreaths laid at the Narrow Water memorial have been vandalised previously.

An investigation has been launched after poppy wreaths were damaged at the Narrow Water memorial.

It's believed to have happened sometime between Saturday and yesterday.

Ulster Unionist councillor David Taylor condemned the vandalism calling it "appalling behaviour".

He said, "I am absolutely sickened by this latest incident in which poppy wreaths placed at the site of the Narrow Water bombing were desecrated.

"This is one in a long line of many attacks on wreaths at this location and it is all the more poignant that it has happened as we approach Remembrance weekend.

"This is appalling behaviour," the councillor added, "quite simply, this is a hate crime which should be condemned by right-thinking people."

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact officers at Ardmore Station by dialling 101 and quoting reference number 746 of the 6/11/17 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on freephone 0800 555 111.
