Drugs with a potential street-value of up to £80,000 have been seized by police in Omagh.

A quantity of herbal cannabis and Diazepam tablets were found following searches by the PSNI in Omagh on Wednesday of this week.

The find has been described as "significant...and one which must be welcomed" by officers in the area.

"House searches in the Omagh area led to police seizing drugs to the potential street value of up to £80,000,"  a police statement read.

"A quantity of herbal cannabis and Diazepam tablets have been taken out of circulation, along with a significant amount of money believed to be the proceeds of crime," it continued.

Police say they've arrested and charged a 23 year-old man on several possession and drugs supply offences following the find.

“This is a very significant seizure of drugs in the Omagh area, and one which must be welcomed. Selling drugs, regardless of what they are, within our community, and in many cases to our young people, is repugnant," Inspector Scott Fallis said.

"Many young lives are destroyed by drug dealers preying on their vulnerabilities. Life-long dreams and aspirations disappear as dealers get people hooked on these substances, while they the dealers line their pockets with cash," he added.
