Three men to be prosecuted for murder of Ian Ogle

Three men are to be prosecuted for the murder of community worker Ian Ogle, it was confirmed today.

Belfast Magistrates' Court heard a decision has been taken to proceed with cases against Mark Sewell, Jonathan Brown and Glenn Rainey over their alleged involvement in the killing.

Mr Ogle, 45, was beaten and stabbed to death near his home at Cluan Place in the east of the city in January 2019.

The attack, which took place during a long-running feud, was said to have lasted for around 30 seconds.

Previous courts were told he is believed to have been targeted in response to an altercation earlier the same night.

A number of men arrived at the scene, allegedly launched the fatal assault and then escaped.

Sewell, 41, Brown, 34, and Rainey, 34, were subsequently arrested and charged by detectives investigating the killing.

The trio, all from Belfast, are on bail, but their addresses cannot be disclosed due to suspected paramilitary death threats.

In court today a Crown lawyer provided an update as one defendant's case was mentioned.

He said: "Mark Sewell is to be prosecuted for the murder of Ian Ogle, along with Jonathan Brown and Glenn Rainey."

A preliminary enquiry to establish if the three accused have cases to answer is now expected to take place in eight weeks time.

District Judge George Conner adjourned proceedings until August 6. ends
