GPS trackers are planned for Fermanagh and Omagh district council's vehicles to make fleet management more efficient and cost effective.
It was revealed in a report presented to the local Environmental Services Committee at last months meeting.
Officials have proposed equipping all 170 vehicles, including plant and machinery with GPS devices as it can have significant benefits.
Reported in the Impartial Reporter, the report stated that GPS tracking can offer lone working assistance, vehicle security, vehicle checks, improving driver performance, accident investigation, route optimisation and reducing accidents or near misses.
The council's funding and investment unit has approved a five year contract that allows £20,000 in the capital estimates to cover the purchase cost.
That's with an annual allowance of 18 thousand pounds per year in the revenue budgets to cover ongoing air time and monthly charges.
