Limavady United will be without defender Bryan McClelland for the rest of the season.

It's understood the defender suffered a double lef break while playing Dundela on Saturday.

He was due to undergo surgery on the injury earlier this week.

Boss Paul Owens payed tribute to his player, he said:

“My relationship with Bryan goes a lot deeper than most people will realise to be honest because I first coached him from 11-16 years old.

“He wasn’t a regular when I first took over but I told him the potential was there, he just needed to turn that into performances. He’s been in every team I have had since then if he was available because I think there is Premier League footballer in there.

“He’s a massive part of our team not only on the pitch but also in the dressing room as well. The boys all know how strong a person he is, I think if that had happened to me I’d have retired on the spot.

“Bryan is made of stronger stuff than that though and if it comes down to it and we win a few medals at the end of the season then he can have mine.

“I know all the boys will miss him when he’s not there because he’s just such a likeable character.

“Once he has the operation we’ll get him down to the dressing room and get him involved again."
