Two women have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man's body was found in a former TGI Fridays restaurant.

Police were called to the closed-down diner in Sheffield after reports of suspicious activity on Wednesday.

The body of a 55-year-old man was found in the building in Sheffield Road, South Yorkshire Police said.

Two women - aged 35 and 54 - were arrested and remained in custody on Friday.

Formal identification is yet to take place but the man's family have been informed, police said.

Detective chief inspector Laura Procter said officers were "building up a full picture of the circumstances which led up to this incident".

She said she was "particularly keen for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area around the TGI Fridays building in the days leading up to Wednesday" to contact police.

"We will continue to work hard to get answers, and this has included arresting two women who remain in custody for questioning," she added.

"If you have any information which you think could help us, no matter how big or small, please come forward."
