After a three year break, the award-winning NI Health and Fitness Awards are returning for 2022, with a whole new line up to celebrate the outstanding achievements of an industry that took on its toughest challenge in the past couple of years.

Organisers have announced personal trainer and founder of online fitness platform Queens Don’t Quit, best-selling author and fitness influencer Maeve Madden will join veteran host and fitness enthusiast Q Radio’s Ibe Sesay on stage to host proceedings this year.

Maeve will also join the judging panel alongside Coach and online fitness expert Ian Young; diabetic muscle and fitness author, podcaster and educator, Phil Graham; SAS: Who Dares Wins winner and Fit ID co-founder, Connor Smyth; and former Irish Rugby Union player, Stephen Ferris.

Entries are now open, with the Awards event scheduled for 24 September 2022 at the Crowne Plaza, Belfast.

Sarah Weir, Director of Weir Events who founded the Awards, which took home the Best Live Awards Ceremony award at the prestigious 2021 Event Industry Ireland Awards, says there is much to reward and recognise within this innovative industry; “We celebrated the second year of the NI Health & Fitness Awards in 2019, and suffice to say, the industry has continued to inspire me and so many others since their gyms, personal training, classes and studios were shut down not many months after.

“We have seen training sessions go online, group sessions move to local parks, websites and online programmes launched, and completely new ways of motivating, teaching and operating being brought to the fore. This is an industry that has taken a challenge and met it head on, and I couldn’t be more proud to bring back the NI Health & Fitness Awards for 2022 to recognise all they have done for their clients, teams and the industry as a whole.”

The Awards return with 24 categories to enter this year, including an Innovation Award and Covid Champion / Lockdown Legend. Judges will also decide on the NI Health & Fitness Person or Business of the Year in the non-entry category, to be announced on the night.

Ian Young, who has been on the judging panel of the Awards since 2018 added; “I have been part of the industry for over 20 years, and this awards scheme is the first to recognise the exceptional talent, drive and passion of our business owners, personal trainers, coaches, creators and innovators in Northern Ireland. The 2018 and 2019 events motivated us all to reach even higher in our fields, and the recent lockdowns have shown just how passionate we are to continue our health and fitness advocacy throughout communities in Northern Ireland.

“Our physical and mental health has never been more important, and it is the entrants and winners of these awards who are pioneering new facilities, classes and initiatives in Northern Ireland. We can’t wait to see what the entries bring this year, and look forward to celebrating with everyone in September.”
