7 more people have died in Northern Ireland having contracted COVID-19 according to the Department of Health.

There has now been 1,039 COVID-19 related deaths in Northern Ireland according to the Department.

This number mainly covers hospital related deaths unlike the figures released by NISRA yesterday which said 1,410 people had died in connection with COVID-19 - 68 of these happened from 21st - 27th November.

NISRA uses information based on death certificates whereas the Department of Health only records people who die after testing positive for the virus.

Earlier this week, the Department of Health recorded over 1,000 deaths for the first time - a figure the Health Minister Robin Swann called a 'sad milestone.'

394 people are in our hospitals here with COVID-19.

33 patients are in ICU.
