Dr Richard Wright is part of a working group that will finalise a report, on staffing levels required to sustain emergency care across the Trusts, at the end of October.

The Southern Trust's medical director has said it will take seven years to reach an ideal staffing solution in Daisy Hill hospital's emergency department.

Dr Richard Wright was speaking at the Trust's board meeting in Newry earlier.

He told delegates that required nursing staffing levels will be achieved in the near future, but with doctors it will be more "challenging, but achievable".

A report on hospital staffing is expected to be complete by the end of October.
