A further two coronavrius deaths recorded in NI

Two more people have sadly died after contracting coronavrius in Northern Ireland.

This brings the total number of deaths recorded by the Department of Health to 2,068 since the pandemic began.

166 new cases of the virus have been detected here in the past day - out of 1,880 individuals tested in that period. 

216 people are currently being treated for coronavirus in local hospitals - 29 of whom are in intensive care units.

Earlier today, official statistics released by the Northern Ireland Statstics and Research Agency (NISRA) showed there were a total of 44 covid-19 related deaths in NI last week.

NISRA's total number of deaths linked to the virus here now stands at 2,816.

NISRA uses a different calculation than the Department of Health for these figures.
