The Nightingale facility at Belfast City Hospital has been de-escalated in what the Belfast Health Trust has described as a “significant milestone” in the fight against Covid-19.
Patients with the virus will be treated at the Mater Hospital, as before the autumn surge.
In a statement, the trust said Belfast City Hospital will continue to provide care and treatment to patients across a range of specialities including haematology and renal services.
The Belfast City Hospital will be a Covid minimal site and is being scaled up to undertake, complex, high-priority surgery, on behalf of the region, with protected green surgical pathways.
However the Trust added that it will also be necessary to maintain flexibility within the system to respond to any potential further surges of Covid-19.
