A body thought to be that of missing Derry-Londonderry man Michael McGinley has been found in the River Foyle.
In a Facebook post on the Help Bring Michael Home page, Mr McGinley’s family said that they were ‘numb but thankful’ to have him home to be able to lay him to rest.
Mr McGinley, who was 27 and from the Gobnascale area of the city, went missing on Sunday January 21st.
In the post his family thanked the hundreds of people took part in land and sea searches around the River Foyle in the last nine weeks to help recover his body.
A police spokesperson said "Police can confirm that the body of a man has been recovered from the River Foyle in Derry/Londonderry this morning, Friday 23 March.
"A formal identification and post mortem examination will take place in due course. However police are not treating the death as suspicious at this time.
"The family of missing man Michael McGinley have been informed."
Foyle Search and Rescue posted online: "At 09:30am today Friday 23rd March volunteers from Foyle Search and Rescue conducting search operations for a missing person located and recovered the body of a male.
"We have suspended our search operation until a formal identification has been made. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Family concerned."
