Ian Paisley is due to speak in the Commons today in the midst of an ongoing lobbying scandal.

The North Antrim representative  could be suspended from the house for 30 days  following recommendations from the Commons Standards Commissioner.

He failed to declare two family holidays paid for by the Sri Lankan Government - before lobbying on the country to the Prime Minister.

Mr Paisley's lawyer says it was 'unintentional' and the DUP representative apologises 'unreservedly'.

Now - he could lose his seat -  if enough constituents sign an official recall petition.

Sinn Fein MP, Elisha McCallion says it's an issue of integrity.

“Sinn Féin stood last year in an election on a platform of equality, rights and integrity in government.

“Ian Paisley Jnr should step down and resign with immediate effect. If he is not prepared to do the right thing then the DUP must demand his resignation.

“If Ian Paisley or the DUP do not do the right thing then it is entirely legitimate for the electorate of North Antrim to exercise its right to force a by election."

The DUP says the matter will be considered by the party officers.

Meanwhile north Antrim MLA and leader of the UUP, Robin Swann, has commented:

“It is very serious that the Commissioner has found a number of House Rules to have been breached and a harsh penalty has been recommended.

“This is embarrassing for North Antrim and I am sure many people there would agree with me that this is not what they expect of their MP.

“The Standards Commissioner has made her recommendations and I wait to see what action is taken by the DUP in light of this.”
