It looks like the long-awaited first sailing of the Carlingford Ferry is imminent after it was confirmed a delayed delivery of navigational aids has arrived.

CEO Pamela Houston told Q Radio that absence of essential aids held up the passenger and vehicle ferry launch, as they provide a safety feature.

We understand they're being installed and will need to be checked by regulators before a date for the sailing can be confirmed.

The news coincides with a recent legal dispute in favour of the Carlingford Ferry.

Local activist Christine Gibson lost an appeal against the dismissal of a judicial review case against DAERA and Newry, Mourne and Down district council.

She claimed planning was granted without an environmental assessment which would show the negative impact of the ferry on the shoreline and wildlife habitats.

Christine's case was thrown out last week, leaving her liable to pay a hefty £3,000 in legal fees.

The Greencastle to Greenore ferry was scheduled to launch at the beginning of June.

Early Bird ticket holders have been advised they can get a refund but all tickets are valid for 90 days.
