Countdown begins to Newry Culture Night

The countdown is on to Newry's Culture Night.

The evening of arts, music, history and dance gets underway tonight.
Between five and eleven Newry Market will be transformed into a cultural hub.
Events will also be held across Newry city at venues including the town hall, and the museum.

Some events include:

* Local artist Richard Kelly will be working on his latest, large-scale canvas.
* A Ring of Gullion Handcrafts and Art (ROGHA) workshops in felting, botanical printing and wood turning.
* Artist Mark O’Neill is holding an exhibition of some of his recent works at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre.
* Caricaturist and cartoonist ​John Farrelly be sketching anyone who dares to sit in front him!
* The Town Hall will house Newpoint Theatre for the night with an abridged version of their new show, ‘A Shakespeare Miscellany’.
* Fiona Flynn presents the best in musical theatre with her troupe of young stars singing show tunes
* Local drummers and Newry Venture Scouts will be showing off their skills and rhythms.
* St. Catherine’s Ceili Club will dance the night away.
* Vendors will be selling local produce.
* At Newry and Mourne Museum, contemporary folk band Kern will be gigging from 7.30pm to 9pm with traditional tunes from their album False Deceiver.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “September has been a fantastic month of music, events and activities in Newry and Culture Night is a wonderful addition to the programme. Newry Market has been identified as a great local venue in the heart of the city and I look forward to meeting and enjoying all the artists and participants who will be there on Culture Night.
