Carl Frampton is facing legal action from his former trainers, Cyclone Promotions.
Frampton's solicitor confirmed legal proceedings had been taken, on the basis of a contractual dispute.
The boxer left the McGuigan-owned company in August.
The Tigers Bay man said he was "deeply disappointed" and he will be counter claiming on a number of grounds.
