The brand new Carlingford Ferry service has been suspended just four days after launching.
The service between Greencastle and Greenore isn't expected to resume before Friday.
CEO Pamela Houston has apologised for any inconvenience saying it was due to problems with the hydraulic system.
Q Radio has been told that passengers were left stranded when service was abruptly halted last night.
Rebecca Hanna who lives in nearby Cranfield says no one knew what was happening:
Ms Houston told Q Radio a contingency plan was in place and was carried out:
Cyclist Stephen Mooney from Cranfield used the service to get to Greenore, he recounted his experience to Q Radio's Iveren McCallion, "I cycled yesterday and spent the day in Louth. When I returned at 8:15pm I found I had been left deserted. I waited for 1 hour 45 minutes with only locals from Greenore to supply me with information.
It was disappointing on such a lovely day to be left stranded. Only for my cousin coming to take me home on the pilot boat I would probably have had to stay the night."
Stephen told us he wrote to complain about the customer care at Greenore and was told the company will learn from this.
He was compensated with a complimentary return ticket and offered an apology.
