The Chair of Newry Rainbow Community says a woman who carried an anti-DUP placard in the Belfast Pride parade did so in anger.
Rory Rafferty's comments follow those of MLA Jim Wells who says it was a hate crime and wants to press charges.
The placard criticised the DUP using a four-letter word.
The assemblyman is also calling for the woman to be charged with grossly offensive behaviour and for being in contravention of Parades Commission regulations.
Rory told Q Radio's Iveren McCallion that the DUP must look at the bigger issue:
