A number of people are finally returning to their homes after the discovery of a suspicious object in Derry-Londonderry.

Families in the Seven Oaks area of the Waterside were asked to evacuate this morning after fire crews found what appeared to be a gas canister ablaze.

A family car was completely destroyed by fire and a second badly damaged, while graffiti was sprayed on the gable wall of the home.

It is believed a petrol bomb was also thrown at the house.

Cordons have been reduced, but 10 families remain unable to return to their homes as forensics teams investigate the scene.

Local DUP Councillor Drew Thompson's spoken to Q Radio.
