Gardai are treating the death of a 14-year-old girl found in a disused farmhouse in Ireland as suspicious.

Anastasia Kriegal's body was discovered in the property outside the village of Lucan in Co Dublin on Thursday afternoon.

The teenager had been missing from her home in nearby Leixlip since Monday.

She was last seen at St Catherine's Park outside Lucan at around 5.30pm on Monday - around a kilometre from the farmhouse where her body was found three days later.

A post-mortem is due to be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.

Garda Superintendent John Gordon said the girl's family was "extremely distressed".

He said the body was found as part of a gardai search for Anastasia, known as Ana.

"During the course of that search, at approximately 1pm, they discovered a body in a disused, vacant farmhouse on the Clonee Road," said Mr Gordon.

"We believe the body to be that of Ana Kriegel, and are treating the death as suspicious."

He added: "Anybody who was here, anybody who knows anything at all about Ana or about what happened here or any information they may have, we would ask that they pass it to us."
