Northern Ireland has been chosen as one of a number of global locations for a major new Disney production.

Movie moguls will descend on the north Antrim resort of Portrush in June where it's understood filming will take place over four days.

The film is an adaption of the Artemis Fowl series of books which follow the adventures of a 12 year old criminal mastermind who kidnaps a fairy for ransom.

Filming is set to take place from June 12th - 15th in the vicinity of White Rocks beach.

Scenes will also be shot on the A2 between the Royal Court Hotel and Dunluce Castle and in Magheracross car park.

Road closures will be in operation.

We can also reveal that the film was to have been produced by shamed Holywood star Harvey Weinstein but he was quickly dropped by Disney following a sexual misconduct controversy.

The Artemis Fowl books have been described in some quarters as the new Harry Potter.

If the film adaption becomes a blockbuster Northern Ireland may feature in future productions - just as the very successful Game of Thrones come to an end.

Northern Ireland born Sir Kenneth Branagh will be the Director of this latest movie which will star Dame Judi Dench.

Filming will take place in Northern Ireland, England and Ho Chi Minh City.
