Around £70,000 worth of herbal cannabis has been intercepted in the postal system in Northern Ireland.

Police believe the drugs were destined for a local criminal gang, and say inquiries are ongoing.

The drugs were discovered last Wednesday, although no arrests have been made.

Detective Sergeant Denis McGaffin said: “ Herbal cannabis with a street value of around £70k was intercepted from the postal system by detectives on Wednesday 9th November.

We believe these drugs were destined for a local criminal gang and our enquiries are ongoing to identify the individuals involved.

Whilst no arrests have been made at this stage, I am delighted to have taken these drugs from the hands of the criminals attempting to profit from this illegal trade.
