Money has been stolen by a man armed with a hammer from a shop in north Belfast.

The suspect entered the property on Westland Road at around 7.25pm yesterday evening.

Police say he approached the counter and demanded a staff member to hand over cash from the till.

He then made off in the Oldpark Road direction with a sum of money.

The suspect is described as being aged in his late twenties, approximately 5' 5" tall and is described as being of a ‘broad build’.

He’s reported to have worn a grey ‘bobble hat’ and a burgundy zip-up jacket.

Detective Constable Steph Beattie said: "Thankfully, the staff member wasn’t physically injured, however, as you can imagine, this will have been a terrifying ordeal.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area between 7:25pm and 7:35pm and who saw what happened, or noticed anything suspicious, to call us. The number to call is 101, quoting reference 1709 of 12/03/21.”
