Two women have been threatened and robbed by a man armed with a knife at a house in Belfast.

It happened in the Cadogen Street area of the city at around 10.15pm last night.

Police say the women, who are in their 20's, were in an upstairs room in the house when an unknown man entered downstairs with the knife.

He made his way upstairs and threatened the pair before leaving with money.

Before leaving the house, he was approached by a man and woman who entered the house.

The suspect threatened them and demanded more money.

He made off towards the Ormeau Embankment area with cash and jewellery following the incident.

The suspect is described as being 5'6" in height and of medium build, wearing a dark tracksuit with a grey t-shirt underneath, a dark hat and spoke with a local accent.

Detective Sergeant Gardiner said, “Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1533 14/5/19.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
