Man arrested over alleged murder bid after Belleeks stabbing

A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two men were stabbed in Belleeks.

One was found with a wound to his neck and the other to his hand in a bar on Main Street early this morning.

Both, aged 43 are recovering in hospital from what are not thought to be life threatening injuries.

The suspect is still in custody.

Detective Constable David Skillen said: "Police were called to a bar on Main Street shortly after midnight following reports that two males had been stabbed. Upon arrival officers found that one man had sustained a stab wound to the neck and another had been stabbed in the hand.

"The males, both of whom are 43 years old, were given first aid by police at the scene before being transferred to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

"The suspect was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody at present.”
