Police investigating a 'Sudden Death' in West Belfast last night have launched a Murder investigation.

62 year old James Hughes' remains were found on the 14th floor of Divis Tower.

The alarm was raisedby a member of the public and the PSNI say they are not in a position to confirm a cause of death.

A post mortem will take place and detectives say they have a definite line of enquiry.

A 42 year old man arrested last night remains in custody.

Police are treating the death as suspicious and have asked anyone who was on the 14th,15th or 16th floors and heard anything unusual between Saturday and Sunday to contact them.

Sinn Fein West Belfast MLA Fra McCann said the local community is shocked at the news:

Chairman of the Divis Residents' Association, John Leathem described the man as a "gentleman", adding that he "would have went out of his way" to help his neighbours.

SDLP MLA Alex Attwood described it as a "further tragedy" for the area, he said:

"The events of recent weeks - whatever the background - confirm what the SDLP has been saying for a long time.

"There are deep multiple challenges facing West Belfast that need multiple and deep rooted answers spanning policing, social, educational, economic and every other level.

"That is where attention needs to be concentrated and by all in leadership."
