Man charged with attempted murder following 'serious assault' on pregnant woman in Belfast

A 46-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a pregnant woman was attacked in north Belfast. 

The victim remains in stable condition in hospital following the "serious assault" which happened on Ainsworth Drive on Thursday, August 6. 

The suspect is also accused of carrying an offensive weapon and grievous bodily harm with intent.

He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today. 
  

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Detectives have charged a 46-year-old man with number of offences including attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon and grievous bodily harm with intent.

"He is due to appear at Belfast MC on Saturday 8th August. As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the PPS.

"The charges relate to an incident at Ainsworth Drive in north Belfast on Thursday 6th August in which a man was reported to have seriously assaulted a pregnant woman.

"The woman is currently in a stable condition in hospital."
