Man in custody after Belfast-Newry high speed chase

A man remains in police custody after a high speed police pursuit that ended near Newry.

The thirty-five year-old evaded a PSNI checkpoint in Belfast yesterday.

He reversed his silver Renault Scenic and trailer into a police car, injuring two officers before speeding off.

A police helicopter and cars embarked on a high speed chase which ended when a stinger device was deployed.

The man faces a series of charges including suspicion of burglary, dangerous driving and criminal damage.
