A man has been left in hospital with lung and kidney injuries after he was stabbed in Lisburn.

The 22-year-old was attacked in the Ashmount Park area late Thursday night.

It happened after just after a 21-year-old man was assaulted with a baseball bat in the nearby Huguenot play park

Detective Inspector Wallace said: "Two men aged 21 and 22 were assaulted in two separate incidents between 11.10pm and 11.30pm last night. The first took place in the area close to the Huguenot play park and the second near to the path leading to the blue bridge, which is close to the river Lagan.

"We believe that one man, armed with a metal baseball bat entered the park and an altercation ensued with a number of males and females. One of them, a 21 year old man, was struck with the bat. He received injuries to his back and cuts to his body. He was treated in hospital, but later discharged.

"A second man, aged 22, was subsequently assaulted with a knife in the Ashmount Park area, which is quite close by. He was found with a number of stab wounds to his side and taken to hospital. He is currently receiving treatment for injuries to a lung and kidney.

"I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time either of these incidents took place - or who has mobile phone footage of either - to get in touch with police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1597 of 24/5/18.

"Alternatively information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
