Man left with serious injuries after south Belfast attack

A man has been left with a suspected fractured cheekbone and a large cut to his head after an attack in south Belfast.

The 53-year-old was found with serious injuries in the Mount Charles area just after 9pm yesterday evening.

Two men were spotted running from the scene - towards University Street.

Police say one of them was shirtless and wearing blue shorts.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "It was reported that shortly after 9pm a 53 year old man had been discovered with serious injuries in the area of Mount Charles.  

"He was taken to hospital for treatment for a suspected fractured cheekbone and a large cut to his head.  

"Two males were seen running away from the scene in the direction of University Street.  One of the males was wearing blue coloured shorts and was not wearing a top.

"Detective Sergeant Keith Wilson is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Musgrave Police Station on 101 quoting reference 1533 28/06/18. 

"Or, alternatively information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
