Newry, Mourne and Down Council is putting men's health to the fore as part of it's contribution to International Men's Health Week.

During the week people are being asked to do something 'out of this world', that will encourage practical change; no matter how small, to improve their health.

The council is also distributing 'Man Manuals' to local barber shops to support the initiative.

These contain information on all aspects of improving health and wellbeing and provide ideas for taking the 'first small step' to start.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Chairperson, Councillor Mark Murnin said:

"I am pleased to be able to support this initiative.

"All men in the district should ask themselves ‘what’s my small step going to be?’ If the answer is ‘I don’t know’ then it might be time to think about doing something that will make a positive difference to your health and the health of your family.

“I would encourage everyone to make a small step; whether it is going for a walk or a swim or talking to your friends about how you are feeling. Every small step can make a big difference.”
