Five mobile classrooms have been destroyed in a suspected arson attack at a derelict nursery school in West Belfast.

Police believe someone entered the grounds of the school in Barrack Street at around 9.15 last night.

The blaze was reported at around 10pm, and officers say thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused.

Inspector Swann said “It was reported at approximately 10:00 am that there was a fire in this vicinity.

"Police along with NIFRS attended the scene and after the fire was extinguished, the damage caused to the mobiles was discovered.

"This crime has caused thousands of pounds worth of damage and we are asking for the public’s assistance in bringing the perpetrators to justice."
