The funeral has taken place of little Kai Corkum in Newtownards.

The 3 year-old died on Friday from injuries sustained when he was hit by a car on the Movilla Road last Thursday.

Mourners gathered at Clark's funeral home in the town earlier - to say their final goodbyes.

Reverend Sue Bell led the service.

Kai's mum Yasmine says "there's no words" to describe the pain of losing a child.

This is the second tragedy to hit the Corkum family, as the 26 year-old and her partner Michael buried their 19-week-old baby Lily-Mai in January 2017.

Yasmine has described Kai as an affectionate boy who always had a smile and loved everybody.

She says he was fascinated with lollipops and monkeys and loved to wear his wellies, while making monkey noises.

The toddler's family have decided to keep him in his own home until the funeral this week.

Yasmine says his twin brothers, Mason and Taylor, simply think their sibling is sleeping upstairs in his room.

Yasmine says the family is "overwhelmed" at how much support they have received since Kai passed.

"The fact that we're in so many people's thoughts is just overwhelming. It just feels like we're not on our own."
