"My boy is awake!" - gratitude as ex-Down player's son regains consciousness

The son of a former Down GAA star's regained consciousness after suffering a brain injury.

Shane King's fifteen-year-old, Patrick, came off his bike on Saturday whilst riding downhill in Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor.

He had been sedated since the accident.

In a social media post Shane thanked everyone for their prayers and kind words.

He wrote, "My boy is awake!! It's still early but delighted to see him open his eyes. Thank you to everyone for their kind words, prayers and encouragement. We are eternally grateful."
