A Newry cancer survivor is to hold an exhibition in Belfast to mark Ovarian Cancer month.

Siobhan McQuade's artwork documents her journey with the disease.

When the retired teacher was diagnosed in 2008 she used Cancer Focus' Art Therapy Service, and found she had a passion for art.

Speaking ahead of the exhibition opening she said, "My diagnosis came as such a shock. Cancer had a huge impact on my life. Feeling sad is too small a word to describe how I felt - I was lost in a black, dark, lonely space."

She added, "I didn’t know what art therapy was, what it meant or what I would have to do, but I had nothing more to lose. Cancer had changed the future that I had imagined, so I thought, why not give it a try?"

Siobhan's exhibition is called Emerging, and is being hosted by the Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast from March the 12th to the 18th.
