Newry could be getting a statue in honour of former Northern Ireland goalkeeper Pat Jennings.
The Friends of Big Pat Group wants to commemorate the Newry native for his achievements on and off the pitch.
Newry Councillor Michael Savage brought a motion to Newry Mourne and Down District Council.
He spoke to Q Radio..
''Pat Jennings was a fantastic sports personality, a great athlete. but most of all he was a great person with a lot of humanity who understood our problems here and reached out over many years.
''And I think its only right and that our city should should reflect that and recognise Pat in some meaningful way.
''Pat contributed so much on the pitch but he also gave so much of his time off it, to reconciliation work as well as supporting many charities and acting as an ambassador for Newry's successful city status bid.''
