Newry PSNI say they acted in 'good faith' when they put a post on Facebook.

The response follows  criticism of their recent use of social media.
Newry councillor Kevin McAteer's says the comments function should be disabled for sensitive posts.
Newry and Mourne District Commander, Superintendent Paul Reid responded in the following statement.

"We issued our advice about avoiding the area of Daisy Hill Wood on Monday in good faith and with the intention of warning the public to stay away from the area. We are unable to disable comments on our Facebook page.

"We use social media as a way of sharing information with our local communities and engaging with them. The information we release is aimed at helping people to stay safe and helping us to tackle crime.

"While we understand that some of the comments made were disrespectful, we cannot be accountable for the actions of every member of the public. Everyone has a responsibility to behave courteously and respectfully towards each other on social media, as they would in everyday life. In this instance we removed the post to avoid upset for the family of the deceased."
