No one has been injured following a small explosion at a biomass power plant in Derry/Londonderry.

Fire crews were called to the site at Lisahally shortly after half seven last night.

The company says a steam pipe ruptured, and investigations are now underway to establish what caused the incident.

A spokesperson from Lisahally power station said: "We can confirm Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service responded to a call from the Lisahally power station site earlier this evening .

"No one was injured in the incident and the response teams have now left the site."

A statement continued "An review of the incident will be carried out by our engineers in consultation with statutory agencies. Our onsite team is working to bring the plant back online as soon as possible."
