Official figures show NI's Covid-19 related death toll now stands at 1,227

Official figures show a total of 1,227 deaths have been recorded in Northern Ireland involving Covid-19 up until Friday of last week.

Department of Health figures for the same period show a total of 844 deaths.

715 deaths occurred in hospital, 423 in care homes, nine occurred in hospices and 80 took place at residential addresses or another location.

Over the last 33 weeks, 1,676 ‘excess deaths’ (i.e. deaths above the average for the corresponding week in previous years) have been registered in Northern Ireland, with the number of excess deaths in the year to date totalling 1,417.
