Any teenager found drunk in public is committing an offence and placing themselves in danger, that's the message from PSNI Foyle this festive season.
Officers have warned that they may be forced to arrest underage drinkers and take them to safety until a parent or guardian arrives.
A PSNI spokesperson said:
"We know that school is over and you will all be getting into the party mood. We want you all to have a good time but, more importantly, we want you to be safe. If you are attending a teenage event, please remember that alcohol is not permitted.
"Any teenager found drunk in public is committing an offence and placing themselves in danger. We have a duty to keep you safe. This may mean having to arrest you for your own safety and/or bring you to a place of safety until your parent/guardian can collect you.
"Once collected, you may be required to attend the police station at a later date with your parent/guardian to undertake a course. If you have been in trouble before, you could end up with a criminal record which has long lasting consequences for your career, travel and education prospects. Please don’t let this happen.
"Please stay safe, don't drink alcohol if you are under 18 and help us to help you have a Happy Christmas!"
