Newry Town Hall will be illuminated purple today for World Mental Health Day.

It'll be one of thirteen buildings across Northern Ireland used to 'shine a light' on mental health.
This year's theme is psychological first aid.
Action Mental Health say the theme "teaches people how to care for and respond to those in distress when experiencing a mental health crisis".
Lee Campbell from mental health charity Mindwise says there's still stigma surrounding the condition,

"We are working to challenge that discrimination by starting conversations and encouraging people to look after their own mental health.

"When people start to talk to other people about mental health they realise that, I mean mental health will affect one in five of us, so if it's not yourself it's probably one of your close friends or family members, and the more we talk about it the more that stigma will reduce."

Other buildings shining a light include:

  • Queen’s University Belfast
  • Antrim Civic Centre and Council Office
  • Ballyclare Town Hall
  • Craigavon Civic Centre
  • Derry City Council Offices and the Guildhall
  • Lagan Valley Island
  • Mossley Mill Council Office
  • Newtownards Town Hall
  • Enniskillen Castle
  • Strule Arts Centre, Omagh
  • Palace Stables, Armagh
  • Old Technical Building, Banbridge
