The rail line between Lisburn and Portadown has been closed to make way for police searches of the area.

Detectives say it follows searches in the Cornakinnegar Road area of Lurgan.

The security operation is part of what they have described as 'a significant ongoing operation into serious crime'.

MLA Carla Lockhart says it's causing havoc for residents, commuters, Translink staff and the PSNI.

The DUP politician said, "Once again Lurgan people are being held to ransom by the actions of mindless individuals, who want to destroy, disrupt and ultimately take life.

"This is costing the tax payer an absolute fortune with thousands of pounds being lost on policing such events.

"The vast majority of people in both North and South Lurgan want to live peaceably and get on about their business.

"These individuals have little support and in fact this ongoing disruption future corrodes their position within the town of Lurgan.

I would call on the PSNI to continue their efforts to thwart the plans of those who seek to destroy and that the public please report any information you may have in connection with this latest attack.

"It is vital that any information is passed to the PSNI to help bring these individuals before the courts and ultimately see them face the full rigours of the law.
